A dark and dreary tale of private investigator, Tom Welles (Nicholas Cage), searching for answers on behalf of a rich widow. See, it appears her rich weirdo husband commissioned a snuff film, and she wanted to know if it's a fake or not. This leads Tom to California where he gets to tour the sordid world of the hardcore pornography industry. One of the fine folks he encounters is Eddie Poole (Gandolfini) who runs a so-called modeling agency.
All I can say is, I left this film feeling dirty and in need of a stiff drink.

Fallen
A eerie thriller about a fallen angel that passes though people, taking over their physical body for as long as it deems necessary. This angel enjoys causing mayhem and especially has it in for policeman John Hobbes (Denzel Washington). Lou (Gandolfini) is a cop who doesn't seem to like Hobbes. Maybe it's because Hobbes is acting so strangely, or maybe he's just grumpy because of his cheap suits and sporty walrus-like mustache. |

A Civil Action
Jan Schlichtmann (John Travolta) is an attorney determined to make big corporations pay for the damage they have caused in a small town by improperly disposing of toxic chemicals. Al Love (Gandolfini) is the father of a huge family stricken with numerous health problems. He hesitantly comes forward to testify because he has seen both the illegal dumping and the effects this seems to have had on his and his neigbors children first hand. Based on a true story. |

The Mighty
A truly heartwarming story about the friendship of two outcasts, Maxwell (Elden Ratliff) and Kevin (Kieran Culkin). Max lives with his dour grandparents because his dad (Gandolfini) was sent up the river for murdering his mom. At Christmas Kenny gets out of jail, decides it's time to rekindle his relationship with Max and he isn't gonna let that pesky restraining order stop him. |

Night Falls on Manhattan
A wonderful film by the talented Sidney Lumet. Sean Casey (Andy Garcia) is voted the new DA after winning the trial and life conviction of the man who shot his New York police detective father. Joey Allegretto (Gandolfini) is Andy's father's partner who, as he puts it himself, "Got caught with my hand in the cookie jar". Let's not give everything away, but Joey isn't around at the end of this film. |

The Juror
Annie (Demi Moore) is the only person on earth with a child and a job who wants to serve jury duty. Well, she gets some excitement in her life alright. Mobsters that want her to rig the jury. Eddie (Gandolfini) is a tough guy with a heart of stone who intimidates people for "The Teacher" (Alec Baldwin). Joseph Boffano (Michael Rispoli) is the son of the trial defendant and mob boss. Eddie foolishly tries to help Annie double-cross The Teacher. Not a wise choice when the police, the mobsters and the court system can't seem stop this cool-blooded murderer who is sweet on Annie. |

Get Shorty
Great writing and a fantastically twisted plot. Bear (Gandolfini) is a Hollywood stuntman-turned-mobster. He works for Bo Catlett (Delroy Lindo) who is out to get Chili Palmer (John Travolta) but in the classic double-cross that this film is filled with, Bear becomes Chili's ally. |

Crimson Tide
Mutiny on a submarine. I'm not really one for war-related story lines, but the things I liked most about this movie were director Tony Scott's colorful lighting effects and tilted camera angles. Not enough to make you seasick, but it made you think about the instability of the ocean. Lt. Bobby Dougherty (Gandolfini) is the guy in charge of supplies and the instigator of a militia-style takeover of the sub at the captain's request. |

Terminal Velocity
Is Ben Pinkwater (Gandolfini) a fumbling District Attorney or is he really an ex-KGB agent in charge of unloading a plane load of hijacked Russia gold? Well, he sure fools Charlie Sheen, which doesn't seem to be too difficult in this movie. Long on action, like the scene with a Cadillac falling out of a cargo plane over the Arizona desert, but severely short on plot (and believability). |

Italian Movie
I haven't seen it yet, but all the reviews I've read are scathing. This movie was probably released just to capitalize on Gandolfini's popularity. |

Angie
"A nice guy, with a good heart", Vinnie Dopodomani (Gandolfini) is a plumber who has been Angie's (Geena Davis) boyfriend since the ninth grade. However, now that Angie is knocked up, she isn't certain of much in her life, except that she doesn't want to marry Vinnie. Watching Jerry (Michael Rispoli) and Tina (Aida Turturro) their not-so-happily-married friends, doesn't help her much either. Then Angie gives birth to a baby boy, with a deformed arm, so she takes off in search of the wonderful life she thinks her long-gone mother is living. |

True Romance
A lot of us first noticed Gandolfini as Virgil, the philosophizing mobster hot on the trail of newlyweds Alabama (Patricia Arquette) and Clarence Worley (Christian Slater). As one of the multitude of gangsters sent to retrieve a suitcase full of uncut cocaine, it's not a huge part, but he definitely has memorable scenes. I still enjoy his interaction with dopey stoner Floyd (Brad Pitt, looking a whole lot like he did as Early Grayce in Kalifornia, which was filmed around the same time). |

Set her up with Mr. Right and marry her off. One of the unfortunate dates she is setup on is with Mike (Gandolfini), a quiet guy who let's his parents influence his life to a great extent. Money for Nothing
Billy Coyle (Gandolfini) is a South Philly dock worker, who is diagnosed by his struggling younger brother, Joey (John Cusack), with a case of "acute fairness" because he refuses to show nepotism and give him work on the docks. Joey's dismal life suddenly changes when he finds the $1.2 million that fell off an armored car, and decides to keep it. Arguments about right vs. wrong erupt when the increasing paranoid Joey is finally discovered by his family to be in possession of the missing moola. Even self-righteous Billy is slightly affected by the lure of money. Billy tries to help Joey by conking gangster Dino Palladino (Benicio Del Toro) with a baseball bat, so that Joey can try to escape. |
